I think that is a fine idea.

But it would be easy for each simulation or experiment to also
report the total bps over the link, in each direction.  E.g., to
compare with the aggregate receive rates.  Or to allow "local"
metrics about throughput vs. delay vs. drop rates for understanding
the queue management.  Or some such.
