It's better to have a doc, something like "how to write xorp components",
though people could deduce the procedure from the existing xorp protocol component.
Document it is a way to encourage people using and extending xorp platform.

Just for curiosity :
At control plan Xorp component could run in distributed manner. 
Does Xorp has plan to support distributed data forwarding (like cisco CEF)?
