But I couldn't log in to the CVS server. I tried leaving the password
blank and  it gives me this error: 
Cvs [login aborted]: end of file from server

Is the CVS server up?

What OS and kernel version are you using?

Also, can you try the latest code from anon. CVS:
http://www.xorp.org/cvs.html
It contains various bug fixes, but no guarantee it contains the fix for
the error you see.
