Thanks to the remote access from Sukrit now the problem is fixed in
CVS.
The issue was that the compiler was giving warnings in places that
it shouldn't (or at least could be safely ignored).

It seems that the warning is printed by the gcc-4.1.2 compiler
that comes with the Ubuntu 7.0 distribution, but is not printed by
the gcc-3.4.5 compiler we were using for the cross-compilation
testing.
Sigh, unfortunately it seems that the cross-toolchain fails to build
gcc-4.x for sparc64:
