[Xorp-users] Mulling migrating to XORP from Cisco re: BGP setup

Hello all!

The company I work for develops digital publishing software and also
hosts various high traffic sites for clients using the software.

At the moment we have a simple Level 3 connect for connectivity, and
recently made the decision to move to BGP to reduce cost and increase
redundancy. However, we realised that to route over 6 providers (5 in a
single pipe from PacketeXchange, plus a pipe to Cogent) we really should
be looking at a CISCO 7204VXR with the 1GB RAM option to hold all the
routing tables safely...

But *OMG* the plan fell apart when we realised the insanely inflated
prices we would have to pay to get one of these devices.

We are now hoping / wondering whether XORP can save our BGP aspirations!

We have some important questions:

- Is XORP stable enough to run a simple BGP setup for commercial Web
hosting?

- Is XORP tested with very large routing tables?

- Is there anyway we can do Netflow collection if XORP is used as the
router (we currently use Netflow to monitor and record traffic flows to
the different sites we host)?

- Has anyone got any good tips extra advice for us at this stage?

Many thanks in advance for any advice on this, and good luck to the XORP
effort!

Best, Dominic
