 This was originally addressed in bro fastpath with commit
 bdb1826ebadb62c1b9aa7ae0b3b60ef3af439fab, but later I discovered a problem
 with that solution resulting in another commit,
 9b7c8b9f98bf3693b375d2316847bffefba73125
