 In principle it could, with specifics hard to say without more
 information/testing.

 But given that we don't fully understand that and that we've already
 deactivated it, I'm in favor of removing as otherwise it'll be just
 more code not being tested and maintained (in particualr with the IPv6
 changes now). We can always bring it back later if we really want to,
 it's all there somewhere in the repository.
