Great, that's exactly the part I was left feeling unsure about: do we
need more than that, or is this just fine?

I'm thinking logs would probably look at bit different occasionally if
we had full pipeline support, but it may just be parts that don't
really matter much in the first (i.e., mostly with regards to control
stuff between actual mails).
