Starting with Ubtuntu 14.01 x64  installed
  and using Bro-2.3.1-Linux-x86_64.deb 

dpkg --install  Bro-2.3.1-Linux-x86_64.deb
(Reading database ... 122099 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to unpack Bro-2.3.1-Linux-x86_64.deb ...
Unpacking bro (2.3.1) over (2.3.1) ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of bro:
 bro depends on libc6 (<< 2.12); however:
  Version of libc6:amd64 on system is 2.19-0ubuntu6.3.
 bro depends on libpython2.6 (>= 2.6); however:
  Package libpython2.6 is not installed.

Method 2:

Is  "git clone" from source the only reasonable way to install Bro ?
